Appeals are a critical part to tax law

When thinking about the Internal Revenue Service, many people think of a monolithic and powerful agency that can't be stopped. This is a gross exaggeration, but they definitely have a lot of power. Respecting this power is essential, but there are also many options that you have as a taxpayer to help yourself and hold the IRS in check when they are taking action against you.

The IRS has to follow a process whenever they take any action. They also have to respect your rights as a taxpayer, and as a person, throughout that process. Any deviation from the norm or any violation of your rights can lead to the case against you collapsing.

Now, having said all of this, it is essential for taxpayers to do their part too. No one should be filing their taxes late (or not at all) with intent. You should also take every step you can to proactively and effectively communicate with the IRS. When they send you correspondence, it is in your best interests to respond promptly and adequately. Procrastinating or hoping that the problem will go away or magically fix itself is not the best way to get past your tax issues. It will only embolden the efforts of the IRS.

There are many different appeals and options to you as a taxpayer facing an audit or lien, so you should look into these options and use them. The best way to do that is to consult with an experienced tax attorney, and at Kundra & Associates, we can help you.
